End of Summer Feels

Labor Day has officially snuck up on us and the Summer season has begun to wind down. As this long weekend signifies the unofficial end of Summer, we wanted to pull together a few things that we think we should all take advantage of before Fall is here. Lets take a look!

Outfit

Whether you adhere to the ‘don’t wear white after Labor Day’ rule or not, we can all agree that on Labor Day, it is still 100% ok to wear all the white you want. So don’t put those white jeans away yet! We’re loving this super casual but cute look for the day’s festivities:

Loving Lately: Repurposed Furniture as Vanities

Repurposed furniture, such as credenzas, dressers, desks, etc, are great pieces to incorporate into your bathroom that add to the personality of the room. One of our favorite ways to see these pieces incorporated is by transforming them into vanities! The versatility and customization that using furniture, instead of traditional vanities, brings to the table make this process a desirable choice for homeowners. When selecting a piece of furniture that you’d like to use for a vanity, however, there are a few things that need to be kept in mind. Let’s take a look!

1) Consider the height of the piece

Standard vanity height is anywhere between 30″-36″, depending on the height of the user. If you find a piece that you love, stand in front of it to see if the height is comfortable for you, or if any adjustments would need to be made.

One way to get away with a slightly shorter piece is by removing the legs and having it mounted on the wall, as seen below:

2) Choose your sink type accordingly:

A vessel sink will sit on top of your vanity, giving it extra dimension:

While an undermount sink will provide the maximum amount counter space for your vanity:

3) Consider your countertop material:

Countertop materials such as quartz, granite or marble are great options for mounting on top of your furniture vanity, as they’ll be the most durable long-term:

If your piece has a top that is in good condition, and you don’t mind the extra bit of maintenance, leaving the original wood top can be beautiful. If you do go this route, however, make sure that your wood is properly sealed/protected.

If you have a piece of furniture in mind that you’d like to repurpose as a vanity, it’s always a good idea to talk with your plumber to find out the best way to maximize your storage during the transition. What do you think about repurposing furniture as vanities? We’d love to know!

Pops of Color in Neutral Rooms

Neutral rooms often times get a bad rep for being ‘boring’ and ‘lacking of personality’, but with the right amount of added color, a neutral room is anything but! Adding pops of color to a neutral room can bring it to life. By sparingly using colors with neutral furniture and paint selections, you can create a space that is both warm & inviting. Neutral colors in your major selections, such as wall color and large pieces of furniture, are a great base to creating a personable space all year around. Take a look below for a few amazing examples of neutral spaces with pops of color, and easy ways to achieve this look!

Adding Color Through Art, Pillows & Accessories:

With your key neutral pieces in place, it makes it easy for customization throughout the year- it’s much easier to switch a colorful vase or pillow out for a different one than it is to reupholster your sofa! Artwork is especially great to get color inspiration from- picking out hints of color in a piece of art that you plan to use in your room will make it much easier to create a color scheme to base your textiles and accessories off of.

You always want to match your accessories to your artwork and not the other way around!

The shades of greens and blues in this otherwise neutral space gives the room so much more personality:

Adding Color Through Rugs:

Rugs are a great way to incorporate color throughout your space. As with art, this is a bigger ticket line item, so it’s best to find a rug that you love and match your accessories to it.

Adding Color Through Accent Furniture:

Adding accent furniture to your space, such as benches, stools, ottomans, etc., is another great approach to livening up a room!

Don’t get us wrong, we LOVE color, but if your tastes lie on the more neutral side, and incorporating a ton of different patterns and hues makes you feel overwhelmed, adding small pops of color throughout your home is a great way to get the best of both worlds!

Effortless Bed Styling: Lumbar & Bolster Pillows

Lumbar and bolster pillows are two easy additions to your bed that add major style without the hassle. Don’t get us wrong, we love throw pillows and use them often in our bedroom projects, but we understand that taking them off every night, piling them up somewhere, then arranging them neatly the next morning can get old. Pull up your duvet or comforter, fluff those shams/cases, and throw a long, stylish lumbar or bolster pillow in front for an easy, time saving & beautiful bed! Take a look below at some of our favorites, as well as some inspiration pics for your Friday viewing pleasure!

Color Crush: Coral

Coral is a color that we associate with summer, so it’s fitting that we’re totally crushing on this hue right now! This beautiful shade of pinkish-orange emulates warm weather and beach days, and can be seen all over from home decor to fashion. Take a look at some of our favorite uses of coral!
